EcoSynth develops new approach for use of singlet oxygen in flow

As part of “The singlet oxygen strategy”, a Marie-Curie ITN research program funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework (FP7/2007-2013), EcoSynth developed a new approach to use singlet oxygen, as a sustainable oxidant, in a continuous flow regime. Using a gas-liquid reactor to force mass transport of oxygen in an accurate and safe manner into the liquid flow, singlet oxygen is subsequently generated through photosensitization. As such, more consistent and reproducible conditions with superior process control over biphasic flow regimes (running on excessive gas supply) are obtained. The methodology was validated by efficient oxidation of a series of relevant substrates, the results of which were published in the scientific journal Reaction Chemistry and Engineering.!divAbstract
